Fairy Trees
In Ireland Hawthorn is know as the fairy tree, often referred to as the gentle bush, lone bush or thorn, as it is disrespectful to mention the fries by name. It is extremely bad luck to cut one down, remove branches or even hang things upon it in case you disturb the little folk. A motorway was once routed around one in County Clare and a fence put around the tree to protect it.
